How do you build and publish your first Botpress AI agent?
Here is a practical setup in 5 steps. It follows the features Botpress lists.
- Sign up for Botpress (the free plan needs no payment). Open Botpress Viber, select a workspace and choose New agent.
- Tell Vibe, the builder agent, who the agent should help, what it should help them do, what it should know and when to hand off to a person. Botpress's example: "Build a customer support agent for Northstar. It should answer questions about shipping and returns using our help center and escalate billing disputes to a person."
- Refine it in the same conversation: "Make the responses concise and friendly," "Use this page to answer questions about our return policy," or "Escalate refund requests over $500 to a person." You can also edit behavior, knowledge, tools and escalation under Build.
- Open Preview and run a realistic conversation. If an answer is wrong, describe the problem to Vibe or use Fix with Vibe, then test again.
- Select Publish changes. Then open Deploy → Channels → Webchat, choose Share your agent, copy the embed snippet and paste it just before the closing </body> tag on your website.

Botpress lets you build AI agents three ways: Botpress Viber, where you describe the agent in plain language and its builder agent creates it; Botpress Studio, a visual builder with flows, knowledge bases and tables; and the ADK, a TypeScript library for building agents in code. What counts as a Botpress conversation?
Any exchange with at least two messages from the end user in a billing month. A conversation that spans two months counts in both, separate anonymous sessions count separately, and on voice every 3 minutes counts as one conversation.
What happens when I hit my conversation limit?
Botpress does not cut you off. At 95% of your quota it adds a pack of 100 conversations automatically, and you are notified at 75% and 100%. Auto-recharge for packs cannot be turned off, so size your plan to your volume.
Does Botpress train AI on my customers' conversations?
Botpress's privacy statement says it does not use conversation data or end-user personal data for any other purpose, including analytics, algorithms, model improvements or training.
