Photoroom: a closer look at product-photo workflows
Keep the product accurate. Check the edit against the original.
Documentation-based Facts checked on official pages Oct 21, 2026. Interface labels can change.

Who this is for: An online seller who needs consistent catalog images. You will end with: one product image on a clean background that still matches the real item.
Before you begin
- A sharp photo of a product you own, shot in even light.
- An unedited copy saved separately.
- Your marketplace’s image rules (background color, size).
Sample input
Source: a black office headset photographed on a desk.
Target: a white-background catalog image with a soft shadow, true color and visible cable details.
Steps
Start from a clean source
Create an account and start the trial shown on Pro or Max, then upload the photo.
Original diagram of step 1, not a screenshot of the product. Checkpoint: the photo is sharp and you kept the original.
Remove the background
Use Background Remover (on every paid plan) and zoom in on the edges.
Original diagram of step 2, not a screenshot of the product. Checkpoint: no missing parts and no leftover background.
Choose a backdrop and shadow
Pick white for marketplaces, or AI Backgrounds for a styled scene, and add a preset AI Shadow.
Original diagram of step 3, not a screenshot of the product. Checkpoint: the product’s color and shape still match the original.
Export and compare
Export the image (each saved image counts as one export) and view it next to the original.
Original diagram of step 4, not a screenshot of the product. Checkpoint: a buyer would get what the image shows.
What should you have at the end?
A clean catalog image plus the untouched original. We do not show a before/after because we did not create one.
What if something goes wrong?
- Ragged edges
- Reshoot with more contrast between product and background.
- Color looks different
- Compare against the original and adjust or reshoot.
- Out of exports
- Check the monthly export count on your plan.
Quick verdict
Photoroom is paid software with a free trial on Pro and Max; no free plan is listed on its pricing page. Its Published Features & Transparency Score is 7 out of 10, below our 8-point bar for featured picks, so treat this as a closer look rather than a recommendation.
Best for
- Catalogs that need consistent white or styled backgrounds
- Sellers who export many images a month
Avoid if
- You need a renewing free plan
- The edit would hide flaws or change color the buyer would see
