What is n8n?
n8n lets you build workflows visually, add code steps in JavaScript or Python, and run AI agents with AI nodes and an MCP server trigger and client. All plans include unlimited users and workflows and every integration, and n8n counts only full workflow executions, not each step. Hosted plans store data in Frankfurt, Germany, and self-hosted plans run wherever you choose; the pricing page also lists a standard self-hosted Community Edition on GitHub. Business adds SSO and LDAP, Git version control and multiple environments, and Enterprise adds external secret stores, log streaming and dedicated support with an SLA.

Here is a practical setup in 5 steps. It follows the features n8n lists; it is not a hands-on test.
- Start a free trial of n8n Cloud, or self-host n8n.
- Create a new workflow and add a trigger, such as a webhook.
- Add action nodes for the apps you want to connect; n8n lists 2,367 integrations, including Google Sheets, Gmail and Slack.
- Run the workflow with test data and check each node’s output in the editor.
- Activate the workflow. On Cloud, n8n counts each full run as one execution.

n8n’s pricing page says it charges for full workflow executions, a workflow run from start to finish, and not for each step or each user.
Does n8n use customer content to train AI models?
n8n’s AI Terms say n8n will not use Customer Content or Output to train any machine learning models, will not keep Customer Content longer than AI feature processing needs, and will not share it with third parties except as needed to deliver the AI features at the customer’s direction.
Does n8n have an API?
Yes. n8n’s docs describe a public REST API available on Cloud Starter, Pro and Enterprise and on all self-hosted editions. It is not available on the free trial.
