How do you use Fathom to record and summarize your meetings automatically?

Here is a practical setup in 5 steps. It follows the features Fathom lists; it is not a hands-on test.

  1. Create a free account at fathom.ai and connect your Google or Microsoft calendar when prompted, so Fathom can see your upcoming meetings and join them. With a consumer email such as Gmail, you need at least one Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams meeting scheduled in the next seven days to finish sign-up.
  2. Download the Fathom desktop app for Mac or Windows, open it and log in. Fathom recommends the desktop app even if you also use its Zoom app or Chrome extension; Linux and Chromebooks are not supported.
  3. Open Settings and, under Video Conferencing, connect the platforms you use: Zoom, Google Meet and/or Microsoft Teams.
  4. In Auto-Record Settings, set the first drop-down to “All Meetings” (or “External Meetings” or “Internal Meetings”), then choose what attendees get after the call: “Summary & recording”, “Summary only” or “Nothing”.
  5. Join your next meeting and Fathom records it in the background, then open the call in Fathom for the summary and transcript. For a Google Meet call that is not on your calendar, click the Add to Meeting icon in the desktop app drawer, paste the Meet URL and press Enter.
